W. M. O. (who makes opiniones?)
Do We Make Our Own Opinions?
The public has opinions. Why do we believe as we do? Opinions are like loose beliefs. Everyone has various and sundry loose opinions, running around in their minds. (consciousness) Very little that we believe would stand up to scrutiny. I do not know where those loose beliefs we get are made. We make it up? These sorts of opinions fire off randomly.
But there are other sorts of opinions, and these opinions have to do more of the outside world we have to interact with. This is of interest to more than just friends and family. They are “social” — these opinions are for the whole world. They are the ones we have to watch. And we are the ones they are watching. Here is where we must discuss the pressure to conform, regarding which I mention Overton, of window fame.
There was a man named Overton. Here is - my opinion - the best article to read on the “Overton Window,” about the range of political opinions other persons will accept. The Overton Window: How Politics Change | Definition and Examples — Conceptually (https://conceptually.org/concepts/overton-window).
If you won’t go outside of the designated “window” it is because you will be sent to Siberia, persons will no longer like you, or something else. You know others will not like it — so you had better watch yourself. Your thoughts come to a halt. I am not against this. It may be helpful for maintaining the peace. When does a person deviate from what the person’s whole society or culture believes? Unthinkable. You do not go against that culture which you live within.
For example, if you lived within a python. He is wrapped around you. Can you imagine? You would definitely monitor what you think. You would not have the wrong ideas. What do you have to say to the python?
You would say: “I like pythons! I feel quite favorably about you snakes. Why are you squeezing me? I am your friend!” Notice how any opinions you hold are determined by what you are within.
What you live within will normally influence your opinions. If you live in a brick house you will like brick. It would be a waste of energy to hate brick.
In summary: If you bite the python that is squeezing you, all it will do is squeeze harder.
I hope all my readers can handle this.
