Thinking about Current Affairs

Note this is the kind of thing I write late at night. I have gotten to be a pretty good writer, haven’t I? I kind of all comes in one big package. Then I finally ended it..

The whole thing is totally hypocritical. Jeffery Epstein is a great guy in the 90s. He is prosecuted but he gets let off with a mild sentence. Nobody shuns him or avoids him. Sexual material is very easy to come by. You can buy “Playboy” at the newstand. Isn’t that wrong? One minute something is okay. The next minute it is not. Orwell depicted all this, in his book 1984. He was seriously worried that these things were going to come and now we are here.
Trump lies a lot; it is the main Trump method: you just flat out lie. He started in the 1970s. He expected society to let him get away with it. The society did let him get away with it.
Trump is right and everybody else is wrong. And it doesn’t matter. We don’t know the difference between right and wrong. The United States is now doing what every dictatorship on earth has ever done. And suddenly of course this is okay. Because Trump is very mean and he bombs and sells weapons and it quite willing to go to war. He just needs to make the decision. And then it will not matter anymore what is legal and what is illegal. His enemies will be dead. That is how it always works and we are going to stand there and let it happen.
No one will stop him and no one will intervene. Maybe the military will intervene, and oust him. That is called a coup. I don’t even know where that word comes from. Is it American Indian? Is it French? Both??
Hugh Hefner got away with a magazine that had pictures in it that exposed women’s breasts. That was considered flat-out wrong in American culture at that time. There was a court case, but Hefner was allowed to send his vulgar, salacious magazines throught the US mail. Like Trump, Hef became a big celebrity. Everything was okay.
American society is full of liars and cheats. Twain depicted this in the 1830s, in his book “Huckleberry Finn,” in which everyone is lying including the protagonist. Today, the more outrageous someone is, the more we like that person.
Except when we turn around and suddenly change it up again. Trump thrives in this environment. Trump did not create this environment; he is just taking advantage of it.
When did “America is free country” become “we are free to lie”? This did not start with Trump. Sen. Joe McCarthy lied. Trump’s dad was close to McCarthy’s lawyer, Roy Cohen. Tump grew up watching these persons succeed, make millions. It doesn’t matter. When Trump needed to cooperate with the mafia, he did that as well. It is very difficult to succeed without looking the other way. Jimmy Breslin wrote about this.
The reality of life is corruption and swindling and thievery and violence. And all the thieves are honest when they need to be. Not everyone thinks Hitler was a bad guy, either. He became a bad guy when the US declared war on him. Hitler had been killing people in Germany right and left for twelve years. Epstein was reported, in print, to have had Bill Clinton on his private jet eleven times. There was hardly a word said about it. But a reporter examined the flight logs (maybe they are legally designated as public access, IDK). People more or less knew what Epstein was doing on his island. It was fine. Then suddenly a new trend emerges and suddenly everyone knows what right and wrong is. Sex, of course, is allowed only between married persons and you also have to be of age. This is what’s good and proper and decent.
