And it come down to one simple question: Can we ever get anything without paying? The fuzzbrain mathematicians say: “No.” And: “The only once getting fat is Mama Cass.” And the only ones getting rich are the fat bloodsucking millionaires. These fat human leeches show up at your door. They ask for a five dollar donation. This time to “Medium.”
“Medium.” As in the business called “Medium.” A nice little business called “medium.” They want to exploit you. They want to suck your blood.
Economics depends on use value as well as surplus value. These were once very well-known economic concepts. (You eat an apple—? ~ “use” value. If you sell it or exchange it ~ there is a “surplus” or a profit.) I think the transaction is divided into seller and buyer, too. Persons who sell make a profit, but people who buy things make an expenditure. If Medium.com offers a product that is has social worth, which is to say it is valuable to the public, the public should not need to pay. It should be a public resource. Such goods are a resource for the entire community. Each individual person does not necessarily have to pay. Not understanding this causes “Medium” to be a stupid company. We want the service “Medium” offers. We do not need to pay anyone.
If “medium” wants to ban us, Substack is ready to receive what we have to give and many of us have switched. I do not need to fool around with a five dollar a month payment if I am on Substack. The one who thinks it is all about money is the stupid one. Isn’t that pretty much generally true? Isn’t it less virtuous to try to find a way to get into other persons’ pockets than it is to want to contribute to others’ well-being?
Stupid economic theories will only hold us back as a notation. Ooops: I think I must have meant, “nation” there!
I remember as a kid that if someone had told my parents they would one day have to pay for drinkable water or breathe clean air they would have been both astonished and angry.
As you state clearly here that which is designated for the common good should be free (that is, publicly owned). Yet today we have the Federal government supplying the funding for medical research while pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Astra Zeneca reap the profits.
