It just seemed to me the headlines were "off." I had to reason it out quite a bit but in the end it looks like I am right. You know: Trump is a very difficult man to understand. I think he had challenges early on in life and, as a result, developed his own perspective. I especially like my point that, to handle a dictator you do not talk about "softening him up" (how? bombs?). Nope. Smarter the way Trump does it. Call the man "brilliant" and then you might be able to at least sit down with him for a talk.

...the sad thing is that, the more a person reads every word of the quote, the more my doubts about it look spot on. If one analyzes, it looks like the Huff headline is wrong. And the Huff people are not doing that (which is the sad part). He may have praised Xi for something, but the "iron fist" part emerges as not being part of the praise --- it is only a detached fact. Trump says what is true: he [Xi] uses an iron fist type of rule over China, a place with 1.4 billion persons. But is Trump singling Xi out for praise for his iron fisted rule? That is nowhere in the quote. So, the word "for" is important there, and the word directly connects Trump to "iron-fisted rule." That is false. It is directly what Trump did NOT say. This is very sad, that Huff Post, which has approximately a million times my resources, would say that.
