Outline of a new theory of society

A person has an opinion and a different person has another. But these different opinions live somewhere. They both live in one shared

opinion environment

A “critic” has an unpopular opinion. In the case of the unpopular critic the opinion is heard but is seen as a “critical” opinion. It is not mainstream. It is not in keeping with the mainstream. It is tolerated, it may not be given a lot of news coverage.

Popular opinions are just the opposite. They are repeated in the mass media thousands of times every day by hundreds of well-paid operatives.

A.k.a. journalists . . .

However, when critical views or uncommon opinions are not heard at all, then totalitarianism wins. It is quite hard to squelch all unpopular opinions. It is just not that easy. People have brains—and tongues. They may speak to one another.

When journalists are active talking heads from the opinion environment appear in all places where the mainstream media is viewed or listened to. They are yammering on the TVs of Americans. The mainstream opinion must be heavily promoted. The mainstream thinks the survival of the world as they know it is at stake. They instinctively gather ‘round to protect these mainstream opinions. The critics are dismissed, their ideas are all “misinformation,” and despite that the critics still publish their horrible ‘misinformation,” but use alternative websites. And there are quite a few of them, for the web is a big place. The opinion environment is sharply biased towards the mainstream but critical views may be accessed,and what links them is the opinion environment. In a free country this may be done by anyone. All you need is to be minimally intelligent and interested.

Both views exist but there is a question that comes up here and the question this time is not about the critics but rather the mainstream. The question is that of whether the mainstream still has any viability. And, yes, of course it also depends on who you ask. But the critics are still tolerated. The opinion environment still has minimal flexibility, so as to allow the critics to function. In other words, they are still not being hauled off of the streets and into prison as of yet. They are simply put in court and given trials. From reports, yes the society is at the stage of throwing some persons out of their jobs. Many have been removed from their jobs, but the more skilled tap into their networks and survive. Persons may be put out of work simply for refusing to take a dangerous, experimental vaccination treatment. They may wind up on Substack, where more new writers are added every day. Many of these writers are critics. When someone decides to be a critic, they are doing their part to keep the opinion environment free and accessible to all

We do not consider just the two views. We also must consider the opinion environment in which they live, a situation in which some are supporters of the mainstream and some are critics of it. Just as we need air to breathe, we need an open, free opinion environment in order to have discussions.
